Harris Teeter, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Kroger Co., operates over 230 locations and two fuel centers in seven states and the District of Columbia.

Harris Teeter has been a National Account customer of Shealy Electrical — now Border States — since 2007. A service opportunity arose initially in 2007, and we went above and beyond Harris Teeter’s expectations. They have been a loyal customer ever since. We first proposed this project at The Shops at Blakeney when they completed a walk-through and survey of the store.

Harris Teeter had four main reasons for this project:

  • High energy costs
  • High maintenance costs
  • Poor lighting
  • Uneven light distribution

We worked with Harris Teeter on selecting new fixtures to replace the 157 400-watt metal halide fixtures in the store. The selected new fixture was the Cree CXB series LED highbay luminaire. With exceptional rated lifetime, zero restrike time and a compact lightweight construction, this was an excellent replacement for what Harris Teeter had in place. It also provides energy savings and significantly reduces relamp maintenance costs.

THE RESULTS

Harris Teeter operations were pleased with the new lighting, and they have updated the future stores to the new lighting specifications. They are also putting a plan in place to retrofit their existing stores.
