– Description –
An anomaly that exists with firmware versions 29.011 and 32.011 used with Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and Compact GuardLogix controllers. Customers may experience a major non-recoverable fault (MNRF).
Within the controller firmware, a non-safety critical diagnostic may incorrectly indicate anomalous operation, triggering a major non-recoverable fault (MNRF), type 1, numbers 60, 61, or 62 depending on hardware configuration. The fault can be recovered by power cycling the controller and re-downloading the controller program. However, the controller may continue to experience the false diagnostic.
– Temporary Workarounds –
No workaround has been identified. Customers are advised to follow the actions in the Correction section that follows.
– Correction –
Correction requires installation of a non-affected version of controller firmware. Only firmware versions 29.011 and 32.011 are affected with this anomaly.
 Customers using version 29.011 firmware are advised to upgrade to a later non-affected version of firmware, v30 or later. Version 29.011 customers may also downgrade to a version 28 release it their controller hardware supports prior versions.
 Customers using version 32.011 are advised to upgrade to version 32.012 or later. Version 32.012 is scheduled for release by end of July 2019. Version 32.011 customers may also downgrade to a prior version pending the release of 32.012.
Firmware may be downloaded and installed from the Rockwell Automation Product Compatibility and Download Center (PCDC). Access the PCDC at https://compatibility.rockwellautomation.com/Pages/MultiProductDownload.aspx?crumb=112. In the Search field, enter the catalog number of your controller.  5094-OW4ISXT 5094XT Safety Relay 4 Output Isolated Module
Important – Product hardware is not affected and may not be returned on this notification.
– Description –
An anomaly exists with the FLEX 5000™ Safety Digital Output Modules catalog numbers 5094-OB16S, 5094-OB16SXT, 5094-OW4IS, and 5094-OW4ISXT. AOP version 1.02.30 allows for the use of specific configuration settings that may result in momentary output state changes during communications fault and power cycle conditions.
When the AOP configuration of any of the listed modules is set such that the Output State During Program Mode and Output State During Communications Fault Mode is other than the default setting of Off, an output device may experience a momentary change of state during recovery from communications fault or power cycle conditions.
– Temporary Workarounds –
Customers are advised to leave the AOP configuration for Output State During in the default Off states. Specifically, these are Output State During Program Mode = Off and Output Statue During Communications Fault Mode = Off. If you have previously configured your module to use a setting combination other than Off / Off you are advised to reset the settings to Off / Off and download the revised program configuration.
– Correction –
Rockwell Automation is currently investigating this anomaly and expects to release an updated AOP to the Product Compatibility and Download Center (PCDC) that will prevent use of the configuration settings that result in the described condition. Until an update is available, customers are advised to follow the steps in the Temporary Workarounds section of this document.
This Product Safety Advisory will be updated from its Preliminary status when the updated AOP is available.

– Description –
Future Global Positioning System (GPS) events may affect the time keeping capabilities of the 1756HP-TIME and 1756-TIME ControlLogix® GPS Time Synchronization modules. The GPS uses fixed size counters to manage various aspects of time keeping. When a counter rolls over (maximum value to zero) time keeping devices dependent on that counter may need to be updated to compensate.
A recent rollover event occurred 0n April 6, 2019. The GPS time standard rolled over the week counter to zero. In the GPS, weeks are calculated using a 10-bit counter, giving a maximum of 1024 weeks prior to rolling over to week 0. This correlates to approximately 19.7 years. When the rollover occurred, GPS devices that used this information to calculate time erroneously calculated the week as 0, or 19.7 years in the past. The next week rollover event for devices using this 10-bit counter is expected to occur on September 27, 2036.
As reported by the US Naval Observatory (USNO), “there is an ongoing multi-billion-dollar program of upgrades to improve the overall performance of the Global Position System. Included within this program is a move towards a 13-bit date field to represent the week number. Thirteen binary bits represents around 157 years per epoch. Newer GPS receivers will not be affected by the current end-of-epoch situation”.
Additional information concerning the recent 10-bit week counter rollover event may be found at the Department of Homeland Security and the US Naval Observatory.
Additional future events may have a similar effect on the 1756-TIME module. Rockwell Automation has created Knowledgebase Article ID 1082057 to address this and future events that may affect the 1756-TIME module.
– Temporary Workarounds –
No workaround has been identified for older 1756HP-TIME and 1756-TIME Series A modules. Rockwell Automation encourages customers with older modules to migrate to the current 1756-TIME Series B modules.
– Correction –
Rockwell Automation will update Knowledgebase Article ID 1082057 when upcoming rollover events result in firmware revisions. Customers are encouraged to subscribe to updates to this article to receive advance notification.
Users of prior 1756HP-TIME and 1756-TIME Series A modules must migrate to the current 1756-TIME Series B module prior to 2021. Migration of older product is at the discretion and cost of the customer.
Users of current 1756-TIME Series B modules should upgrade their module to firmware version 3.005 or later. Version 1.0 – April 30, 2019
Rockwell Automation received two reports about potential vulnerabilities affecting versions of CompactLogix™ 5370 Programmable Automation Controllers. A successful exploitation of one of these potential vulnerabilities could result in a Denial of Service (“DoS”) condition to the web portal of the affected device. A successful exploitation of the second vulnerability could potentially result in a DoS to the controller where it enters a major non-recoverable fault (“MNRF”). A MNRF is considered a safe state. Further details about MNRFs can be found in the vulnerability details section.
Customers using the affected products are strongly encouraged to evaluate the mitigations provided below and apply the appropriate mitigations to their deployed products. Additional details relating to the discovered vulnerability, including affected products and recommended security guidelines, are provided herein.

VULNERABILITY DETAILS
About Major Non-Recoverable Faults (“MNRFs”)
If a MNRF occurs in a CompactLogix controller, all I/O modules will transition to their configured fault state (for example Hold Last State). Memory will be marked as invalid and cleared. It is important to note that the memory clear is controlled and intentional, as the controller has determined internally that something is wrong and cannot guarantee continued safe controller execution. As a result, the controller goes into a Major Non-Recoverable Faulted state, which is considered safe. Recovery requires that you download the application program again.
2
Vulnerability #1: Email Object Stack Overflow Denial of Service
Rockwell Automation received a report describing a vulnerability where a remote, unauthenticated threat actor
could send crafted SMTP configuration packets to port 44818 potentially causing a Denial of Service condition,
where the controller enters a major non-recoverable faulted state (“MNRF”).
CVE-2019-10954 has been assigned to this vulnerability. Rockwell Automation evaluated the vulnerability using
the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (“CVSS”) v3.0. A CVSS v3 base score of 8.6/10 has been assigned.

Vulnerability #2: Web Portal Denial of Service
Younes Dragoni of Nozomi Networks discovered a Denial of Service vulnerability in the web server of
CompactLogix 5370 PLCs. By sending specific requests to the web server, a remote, unauthenticated threat actor
could potentially force the web server to become unreachable, potentially preventing the user from gaining web
access to view live controller data. A reset of the device is required to recover the web server. The control
functions of the product are not affected by this vulnerability.
CVE-2019-10952 has been assigned to this vulnerability. Rockwell Automation evaluated the vulnerability using
the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (“CVSS”) v3.0. A CVSS v3 base score of 5.3/10 has been assigned.

PRODUCT SAFETY ADVISORY
Notice of Potential Unsafe Condition
Rockwell Automation issues a Product Safety Advisory when it identifies a product(s) anomaly that may potentially cause harm to personnel, capital equipment loss or environmental damage. Immediate action is required as identified below.
Compact Logix 1768-L4x and Compact GuardLogix 1768-L4xS When Expansion I/O Bank Loses Power
Reference: 2019-04-003
Date: April 2019
This Product Safety Advisory informs you of an anomaly that exists with CompactLogix™ 1768-L43 and 1768-L45 processors, and Compact GuardLogix® 1768-L43S and 1768-L45S safety processors. When used in a system configuration with expansion I/O banks, if the expansion I/O bank loses power independent from the local rack, the processor will not be notified of the power loss.
This may result in the processor not acting on changes in input states or values from the expansion bank. Critical process functions dependent on these values may not be executed.
PRODUCT SAFETY ADVISORY
– Product Identification –
The affected products are 1768 CompactLogix processors and Compact GuardLogix processors, firmware versions after V18 up to the corrected version, when used in a system configuration using expansion I/O banks. The potentially affected CompactLogix and Compact GuardLogix processors are:
 CompactLogix processors, catalog numbers 1768-L43, 1768-L45, 1768-L43-CC, and 1768-L45-CC.
 Compact GuardLogix safety processors, catalog numbers 1768-L43S, 1768-L45S, 1768-L43S-CC, and 1768-L45S-CC.
Important – System hardware, including listed processor modules, are not affected and may not be returned on this notification. Correction will require download and installation of an updated firmware release. Refer to the Correction section of this document for additional information.
For product in use, the hardware identification information may be found on the product nameplate, located on the side of the module. The catalog number will be on the left side in the CATALOG/SERIES field.
In the example shown below, the catalog number string is 1768-L43/B, or 1768-L43 Series B. 1768-L43 is in the list of potentially affected processors and this system would be subject to this notification.
CompactLogix and Compact GuardLogix processors are shipped with default firmware. Operational firmware must be downloaded and installed prior to use. The currently installed processor firmware version can be found on the processor’s information or property dialog as viewed in Rockwell Automation network tools, such as RSLinx® RSWho or FactoryTalk® Linx Browser.
– Description –
An anomaly exists with CompactLogix™ 1768-L43 and 1768-L45 processors, and Compact GuardLogix® 1768-L43S and 1768-L45S safety processors, firmware versions V18 and later. When used in a system configuration with expansion I/O banks, if the expansion I/O bank loses power independent from the local rack, the processor will not be notified of the power loss.
PRODUCT SAFETY ADVISORY
When an expansion I/O bank is connected to a local rack controlled by one of the listed processor modules, if the expansion bank power is loss or removed but the local rack continues to be powered, the processor will not receive fault notification that the expansion bank has been powered down. The processor will continue to operate using the last input states received from the expansion bank. If an input connected to a module within the powered down expansion bank changes state or value, the processor will not receive notification of the state or value change and will continue to operate using prior values. Outputs from output modules within affected expansion banks will go to their zero state.
This may result in a change of state or value to a system input not been acted on and subsequent critical process functions not being executed.
When power is subsequently applied to the expansion bank, the processor may fault, resulting in loss of control functionality for the system until the fault can be cleared and the system restarted.
– Temporary Workarounds –
Until corrective actions can be implemented, customers are advised to review system configuration and eliminate, if possible, the use of expansion banks. If required, customers are advised to move system critical I/O currently attached to expansion banks to the local rack.
Additional temporary workaround actions may be available depending on system configurations. Contact your system supplier or Rockwell Automation Technical Support for more information.
– Correction –
Correction requires updated firmware. Version 20.020 is expected to contain the update. When available, corrected firmware will be made available on the Rockwell Automation Product Compatibility and Download Center. Rockwell Automation is currently working on corrected firmware and will provide an update on the Rockwell Automation Knowledgebase Article ID 1086373 for this notification when available. If you would like to receive an email notification when corrected firmware is available, click the link at the end of the Knowledgebase Article and enter your contact information.
Note – Rockwell Automation will be making the correction only to the V20 release set. Customers with expansion bank configurations using release V18 or V19 should migrate to the corrected V20 release when available. If unable to migrate to the V20 release, actions listed in the Temporary Workarounds section may be implemented. Contact your system supplier or Rockwell Automation Technical Support for additional information.

PRODUCT NOTICE
– Product Identification –
The potentially affected product is the ControlLogix HART 8-channel Analog Output Module, catalog numbers 1756-
OF8H, 1756-OF8H-CC, and 1756-OF8HK. Potentially affected products were manufactured October 1, 2016, (date
code 2016/10/01) through February 28, 2017, (date code 2017/02/28).
On installed product, the product identification information may be found on the module nameplate label. The
Catalog number will be in the CAT field located above the CAT barcode. The manufactured date will be in the
DATE field located toward the bottom center of the nameplate and will be of the format YYYY/MM/DD, where
YYYY is the year, MM is the month code, and DD is the day of the month.
In the example shown to below, the catalog number is 1756-OF8H and the date of manufacture is 2016/09/23, or
September 23, 2016. The catalog number matches the product identification, but the manufacture date of this
example is not within the potentially affected product date range. This label as shown is an example only and
would not be subject to this notification.
For unopened product still within the product carton, the
product identification information may be found on the
shipping carton label. The catalog number will be in the
CAT field located on the left side of the label. The
manufactured date will be in the DATA field located on

– Description –
A potential anomaly exists with the ControlLogix® HART Analog Output Module, catalog number 1756-OF8H, and the conformal-coated variations 1756-OF8H-CC and 1756-OF8HK. In rare instances, modules manufactured October 1, 2016, through February 28, 2017, may shut down without fault state notification.
In a small percentage of modules manufactured within the listed date range, a component internal to the module may stop operating resulting in a loss of communication between processors within the module. The loss of communication causes the connection to the controller to time out. However, the module itself does not receive a fault state event and the module will continue to output last state instead of the configured fault state.
– Temporary Workarounds –
No workaround has been identified for this anomaly.
– Correction –
Correction requires replacing the module. 1756-OF8H modules that match the product identification information above may be returned for replacement or exchange. 1756-OF8H-CC and 1756-OF8HK conformal-coated variations may be returned for replacement only. Contact your Rockwell Automation Distributor, Sales Office, system provider, or other original place of purchase to discuss replacement options that may be available to you on this notification.
Reference this Product Notice PN 2019-03-001 when making your request. Customers with unopened product are asked to return product with the factory carton seal intact. Rockwell Automation will accept requests for replacement or exchange for a period of 18 months from the initial publication date of this Product Notice.
– Requested Customer Action –
